Kon-Tiki
In 1947, the Norwegian explorer and ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl gathered a crew of six men (and one parrot) and set out on a fearless voyage across the Pacific Ocean. The purpose of the expedition was to prove Heyerdahl’s theories of ancient migration by re-enacting the Peruvian’s hypothetical journey all the way to Polynesia. For purposes of keeping the voyage as authentic as possible, Heyerdahl had the raft built with native materials and brought a handheld, 16 mm camera with him for documentation.
