Almost True
A documentary about Elmyr de Hory (1905 – 1976), the greatest art forger of our time. When disclosed in 1968, he had probably painted more than 1,000 fakes, primarily in the style of the post-impressionists. Their total market value was estimated at more than 100 million dollars. Many a gallery of good reputation may be in possession of a dubious Matisse or Modigliani. Elmyr de Hory also faked his own identity and his story lets us into a world where the boundaries between fact and fiction are erased.
