In 1990 art collector Haakon Mehren discovered several paintings in a barn outside of Oslo. The find led to a conflict with the Norwegian art establishment, ongoing after 30 years. Painter Aksel Waldemar Johannesen (1880-1922) was a huge success abroad posthumously but the Norwegian art establishment derides his works as worthless. An art establishment characterized by conflict, widely divergent opinions and strange goings-on. Who decides what is art?
