Finns born in the 1960s and 1970s still talk about the intergenerational trauma of the second world war. It stunted emotional expression in families and fostered a culture of hard work. Taylorism, a scientific management system aimed at maximising efficiency and resources, became a guideline for development in Finland because of the pressure created by fulfilling war reparations to the Soviet Union.
