Danish film director Jon Bang Carlsen travelled to South Africa to find a white family facing the new equality after apartheid. But his film became a story about two different women who both experienced tragic loss in a white community apprehensive about the future. Both gained strength from overcoming loss, and were able to face the new day, though from different angles. “If you have no love you’re going to be cruel,” a woman says in the film. “That goes for cultures as well.”
