The Journey to Sophia
Reisen til Sophia
On the 25th of October 1897, at 3 o'clock in the morning, 13 sailors go ashore in Stavanger harbour in Norway. They have been missing for over a year, and were considered dead. The men are wearing borrowed clothes and carry turtle shells, conches and drinking cups made from coconuts. They are the surviving crewmembers of the sailing ship Seladon. The story of these sailors is the driving force in director Gjert Meling's journey from Stavanger to the small island of Sophia in Tuvalu in the Pacific Ocean.
