In the 1980s boxer Boris Malinowski was the leader of one of the most powerful Russian mafia groups, the Permskaya. In 1988 he was convicted of involvement in organised crime and served in 27 different prisons. He left prison a changed man, determined to live a new life. During the making of this film, a hit-man shot Boris in the throat. Miraculously he survived. Boris believes that God saved him and he is now trying to live an honest life, but old favours and debts constantly remind him of his past.
