A prize-winning documentary about the director's family in northern Finland, based on a grandmother's letters. The letters revealed patterns of life and death that were to be repeated in the next generation — during the making of the documentary, two of the director's second cousins committed suicide, a year apart. The film is about issues wider than the family; it is about Finnish culture and even the universal human condition.
