Malmö City Archive: Collecting Memories
Feeling nostalgic or curious? Take a walk down Bergsgatan to Malmö City Archive and discover two documentary gems, screening every hour on the hour. In The Photo Shop, we follow Lennart, the charismatic owner of a Malmö store that has been welcoming analogue photography enthusiasts for decades. In Behind Simple Things, we explore Isabel’s extraordinary home, turned into a personal museum full of thousands of objects acquired over the years. These two places – the shop and the flat – happen to be a stone’s throw away from Malmö City Archive. These sweet and personal films give us a unique chance to take a peek behind the scenes, and meet local figures with a lot of stories to share.
Between the short film screenings, explore Lennart’s exhibition of timeless photographs, accompanied by 30-year-old forgotten and unclaimed prints, still waiting for their owners – and their stories to be told. On the other side of the room, Isabel’s installation rises: a stack of worn wooden chairs bearing bird cages and vintage dolls, a stark reflection on the scraps and imperfections that society forces some to endure, or to feel within themselves.
The films start every hour on the hour, starting from 10.00 every day and will play on a loop throughout the festival.
