Next of Kin

Digging deep into the raw and often unspoken stuff of life, this programme is all about those most dearest to us – our families. Icelandic writer/director Rúnar Rúnarsson (whose recent feature opened Un Certain Regard in Cannes!) has created a brutally stark portrait of a father’s struggle with alcohol abuse and the resulting broken relationships caused by his addiction, while Heart of Concrete sees the reconciliation of two sisters impacted by their mother’s passing. It’s certainly not all doom and gloom, though. The delightful Poor Me follows a dysfunctional family that consistently finds ways to make each other laugh, even in challenging times.
