Reframing Documentary – A Talk with Göran Hugo Olsson
Constantly reinventing and repositioning himself as an artist and a storyteller, it feels impossible to fit Göran Hugo Olsson’s body of work into one headline. For more than 30 years he has challenged traditional filmmaking often by approaching it from existing sources, reframing them to reach new audiences – always done with great respect and a deep understanding for the source, but at the same time creating a piece of art in its own right.
The thread that runs throughout Göran Hugo Olsson’s art is a profound respect for the artists he collaborates with and the artwork that he bases his films on – the creators of the archival material, the authors such as Frantz Fanon and Guy Debord, and not least the main characters that be- come co-creators. By doing so Göran Hugo Olsson calls into question the cult of the individual auteur-genius, one who does everything on their own, but instead proposes that collaboration is the true basis of the artform.
Join us for this unique opportunity to hear from Göran Hugo Olsson himself – taking us through his vast body of work as director as well as producer – and gain insight into his approach to art, politics and activism in the past and the present.
