The 36th edition of Nordisk Panorama Film Festival
The festival took place from 18–23 September and featured 100 Nordic short and documentary films, of which 57 were part of the competition programme.
The festival welcomed the world’s oldest music video festival, OMVF, which presented a sold-out evening featuring the twelve best entries from their latest international competition. Another new addition this year was the pub crawl cinema in collaboration with RåFILM, where a cargo bike cinema took the Malmö audience between five bars, each screening a short film. The night ended at the festival bar Brogatan with a love-themed party filled with rituals, romance films and matchmaking. As always, conversations were at the heart of the festival – in addition to the regular Q&As after each screening, discussions were held on the state of diplomacy in Europe together with Föreningen Norden, four director talks, and a deep dive into the roles of humans and animals in the ongoing climate crisis.
Over 70 new short and documentary projects were presented at Nordisk Panorama Market and Forum, where filmmakers sought financing and partnerships. At the Forum, 24 projects were pitched to over 300 professionals, and one participant received the DAE Talent Encouragement Award in collaboration with the Documentary Association of Europe. Across the industry events – including the Nordic Short Film Pitch, Work in Progress, and the Elevator Pitch – around 800 meetings took place.

Opening Films & Competition Titles
The festival opened with two thought-provoking titles that explored history through a contemporary lens, combining AI technology and archival material. In the Danish short film I Am Everything by Jeppe Lange, an artificial intelligence attempted to attain human consciousness by drawing on art history and the infinite image archives of the internet. In The Helsinki Effect, Arthur Franck employed archival material, artificial intelligence, and humour to vividly bring to life the 1975 Helsinki Conference set during the Cold War. What exactly happened at the meeting between the most powerful men of the era? The film was a Finnish, Norwegian, and German co-production.
57 short and documentary films from across the Nordic region were selected to compete at this year’s Nordisk Panorama Film Festival.
