The Cinderella of Tallinn
Tallinnan Tuhkimo
A portrait of Tiiu Silves, the richest woman in Estonia. During the Soviet era, Tiiu Silves worked as a school teacher. In 1988, she started selling flowers on the streets of Tallinn. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Silvers bought up what was left of the Soviet heavy metal industry and sold it to the West. In 1989 Pravda wrote: "Mrs. Silves is selling all of the Soviet Union." While this film was being made, customs duties are collected on the borders of independent Estonia, the metal business is dying and the Russian Mafia has become rooted in Estonia.
