Dance Doc Martha & Niki by Tora Mårtens Opens the 26th Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival

We are proud to present the world premiere of the Swedish documentary Martha & Niki as the opening film for Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival. The grand and festive opening night will take place Friday 18 September at Malmö Live.

The film follows the dancers Martha Nabwire and Niki Tsappos on their way to become the first female World Champions in Hip Hop. A film about desires, yearning and finding the right path in life. Martha & Niki by Tora Mårtens is nominated for the Best Nordic Documentary Award.

The NP Forum Selection Announced

Close to 100 new documentary projects were submitted to the 22nd edition of Nordisk Panorama Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries by some of the very best producers and directors the Nordic region has to offer and the selection has now been announced.

A total of 24 pitch projects have been selected. Among these 5 Nordic Wildcards are brought to our attention by the documentary consultants at the Nordic film institutes. On top of this, more than 20 observer+ projects have been selected for special access to meetings with decision-makers.

Nordisk Panorama Forum is the main funding event for the Nordic documentary community. It takes place in Malmö, Sweden 20-22 September during Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival.

The deadline to fill in the Forum accreditation and apply for a forum seat was 1 August.

Masterclass With Golden Globe Winner Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson

Jóhann Jóhannsson has composed music for short films, documentaries, plays, dance performances and TV-series. He won a Golden Globe 2015 for Best Original Score plus was nominated for Academy Award (Oscar®), BAFTA Award, and Critics’ Choice Movie Award for his score to the Best Picture Oscar® nominated film The Theory of Everything.

At his masterclass at this year’s Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival we will get to know more about his method mixing natural acoustic sounds and electronics with the goal of exploring and unifying these opposites. Jóhann will share his experiences on work as composer of soundtrack for documentaries such as Dreams in Copenhagen and The Miners’ Hymns, which was performed with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Virtual Reality in the Making

Both NP Hackathon and NP Transmedia Meet-up, taking place during Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival will focus on Virtual Reality experiences. Multimedia artist Oscar Raby is headlining this year’s networking event for artists, storytellers, developers, designers and other freethinkers, showcasing his Virtual Reality documentary Assent.

NP Transmedia Meet-up gives you the opportunity to discuss production across industry borders – and most importantly: A chance to share your own projects and best practices with the community. Read more and suggest your topic here.

Over a hundred people applied for the NP Hackathon and we are now in the process of putting together a diverse group of participants.

Music Doc Sounds of Exile to Premiere at Nordisk Panorama Pre Event in Malmö, Sweden

Music documentary Sounds of Exile by Swedish director Carl Moberg will have its premiere at Sommarscen’s final event in Pildamsparken, presented in collaboration with Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival and Folkets Bio Malmö.

Through the festive and emotional music of three artists from Malmö­ and through their stories Sounds of Exile gives a different picture of the city ­ and of immigration in the west today. The artists portrayed in the documentary: Jafar Hasan Aboud, José Pereelanga and Nadin Al-Khalidi will perform after the screening.

Sommarscen is an annual outdoor festival of performing arts with more than 200 performances over two months organized by the City of Malmö.

Exhibition With Nordic Short Films About Life During Wartime

Shadows in War is a new exhibition produced by Galleri Format, Doc Lounge and Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival presenting three short films with different views of the reality of everyday life during wartime. The films will be screened at Galleri Format in Malmö 7 August to 14 September.

The films in the programme are newly produced and depict ongoing conflicts around the world: This is Kabul by Sadaf Fetrat, Sahar Fetrat, Nargis Azaryun, Christoffer Næss and Anders Sømme Hammer, Muski Film by Nebojsa Slijepcevic and This Place We Call Our Home by Sybilla Marie Wester Tuxen and Thora Lorentzen.
