Let’s Talk…Faces of Resistance

As part of the festival, our Let’s Talk… sessions take the conversations beyond the screen.

Starting with stories and questions rised by the film The Secret Reading Club of Kabul, we bring together filmmakers, researchers, organisations and audiences to dig deeper into some of the issues shaping our societies today.

The Secret Reading Club of Kabul takes us inside the homes of young Afghan women who through secretly studying, meeting and recording they become part of a daily resistance from the State that oppresses them.

What does resistance look like when you are not allowed to be seen or heard? What role does our online meetings have in creating spaces that are not allowed in society? 

Panelists

Sama Khosravi Ooryad – Postdoctoral researcher at Lund University and PhD in Film & Media Studies.

Shakiba Adil – documentary filmmaker, journalist, educator, and women’s rights activist.

 

Moderator

Serajuddin Joya – worked in development field for more than 20 years, with a focus on rural development, gender mainstreaming, human rights and Rights Based Approach. Currently working with Swedish Red Cross.
