End of Summer
End of Summer
Shot on black and white super 8 film, Jóhann Jóhannsson’s ‘End of Summer’ is a hypnotic and slow-burning dérive through the austere landscapes of the island of South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Filmed as a series of mostly static tableaux over a period of 20 days during the waning days of the Antarctic Summer, the film is a startling look at life at the edge of the world. Without narration and with a soundtrack that blends cello and voices with Jóhann's field recordings from the voyage, the film maps and explores the terrain of an increasingly fragile region.
